BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Versant Power union employees have reached an agreement with the company after months of negotiations.
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1837 represents hundreds of workers at Versant Power from Bangor to Fort Kent.
Their previous contract expired on June 30.
After reaching a new agreement, Renee Gilman, the union’s assistant business manager, said the union worked hard to secure fair wage adjustments, improvements to the 401k plan and working conditions, and more.
“Our members work in various departments and each and every one of them is essential to the operation and in serving their customers,” said Gilman.
“They are the backbone of reliable electricity in our communities. They make incredible sacrifices and are available 24/7, 365 days a year. They give up holidays, miss family events, and devote themselves to keeping the lights on for their neighbors. The union worked hard to secure fair wage adjustments as well as improvements to their 401k, vacation plan, working conditions, and more, that reflect this dedication.”
“Following good faith negotiations between Versant Power’s local bargaining team and union leadership, a new IBEW 1837 contract was approved by union members Tuesday,” said Marissa Minor of Versant Power.
“We are grateful for the hard work, cooperation and professionalism of all parties involved.”
